What Are the Types of UK Student Visas?
There are three visa options for international students depending on the type, applicant, and date of application.
Student Route (General) Visa
This visa option is created for students aged 16 and above who are accepted into a UK-accredited educational institution. It allows entry up to 1 week in advance for courses lasting six months or less and up to 1 month for courses longer than six months. Students can apply three months before the course starts, providing flexibility and convenience in preparing for their academic journey in the UK.
Student Route (Child) Visa
Students between the ages of 4 to 17 are eligible to attend the courses in UK-accredited educational institutions. It has to be a sponsored legal student route and an independent school accepting fee payments. You can apply and get your visa three months before the start of your course. If the course lasts more than six months or less, you can arrive one week in advance. If the course lasts more than six months, the students can arrive one month before they start.
Short-Term Study Visa
If you are a student enrolled in a short-term course like a training program or an English language course, you can apply three months before leaving for the UK. Once you are granted the visa, you can travel anytime.
What Are the Student Visa Requirements for UK from Pakistan?
Students who wish to secure their study visa should meet these requirements:
- You must be accepted into a government-recognised educational institution in the UK.
- You must showcase that you have enough money to cover all the tuition fees and living expenses during your stay.
- You should have good knowledge of English, which should be demonstrated through a recognised English language test or a degree course in English.
- Students should be able to give interviews and convince the consulate of the UK that their intention is purely to study and that they are not using it for any other purpose.
- You should have a clean criminal or any other background history that is not a direct threat to the national security of the UK.
- For students who are already in the UK and need to switch to another student visa category within the UK, the fee is £490.
- If your family members are joining, the visa fee for each person will be charged separately, which will be the same as mentioned above (£363 for applicants outside the UK).
